Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what we need to run the service, we don't sell it, we don't advertise, and we give you the controls to delete or export any of it any time.
What we collect
When you use StudentEdge, we collect the following categories of information:
- Account data — email address, name, and (for password logins) a hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your Google ID and profile picture URL.
- Content you submit — essay drafts, roadmap goals, task completions, and any other text you enter into the product.
- Usage data — plan tier, credit balance, streak count, timestamps of activity, and roadmap progress.
- Billing data — handled entirely by Stripe. We store only a customer identifier and subscription status; we never see card numbers.
- Push tokens — an opaque browser-generated endpoint if you opt in to notifications.
Who processes it
We use a small number of vendors to run the service. Each is bound by their own privacy commitments:
- OpenAI — text you submit for rewrites and roadmaps is sent to OpenAI's API. Per OpenAI's API terms, they do not use API inputs to train models.
- Stripe — subscription and one-time payment processing.
- Resend — transactional emails (welcome, reminders, digest).
- Google (OAuth) — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- MongoDB Atlas — encrypted-at-rest database.
How we use it
We use your data to:
- Provide the service (rewrites, roadmaps, exports, notifications).
- Send transactional emails you'd reasonably expect from a paid tool (welcome, receipts, streak nudges you can turn off).
- Improve StudentEdge in aggregate — for example, we count how many users generate a roadmap in a month, but we don't read individual roadmaps.
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We do not share your essay drafts with third parties beyond the AI vendor listed above.
How long we keep it
Your account content is kept until you delete it. When you delete your account, we remove your essays, roadmaps, and personal data within 30 days from active databases and within 90 days from encrypted backups.
Anonymised aggregate counts (e.g. "N essays generated this month") may be retained indefinitely for internal analytics.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access all data we hold on you — email us and we'll send an export.
- Correct or delete any of it.
- Withdraw consent for optional communications (unsubscribe links are on every marketing email).
- Port your essays and roadmaps as PDF or Word documents at any time.
If you're in the EU/UK, you have additional rights under GDPR/UK-GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Under-18 users
StudentEdge is designed for people 18 and older. If you're under 18, please use it only with a parent or guardian's consent, and do not create an account without them.
